Paul Robinson: Manor Solomon needs time to settle at Tottenham but is exactly what Ange Postecoglou needs

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Paul Robinson believes Manor Solomon’s integration into the Tottenham starting line-up may take some time, but that may benefit from Ange Postecoglou’s new style.

Israeli international Solomon joined on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk [Sky Sports] after a successful spell on loan at Fulham which earned him four goals and five assists in 19 appearances, averaging a goal every 145 minutes.

The 23-year-old becomes the latest signing under Postcoglou which includes James Maddison from Leicester City and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli, while they still wrestle with the Harry Kane transfer saga.

Robinson says that Solomon may need a little bit of time to be integrated into the starting 11, but changes in the squad and system may benefit the youngster more than he expects.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He’s still only 23 years old. He had a good season on loan at Fulham last year. He’s an Israeli international with a lot of experience for someone so young.

“But it’s going to be difficult for anyone to come into that Spurs team immediately and make an impact. James Maddison will do because of the quality of the player he is. He stood out in a really poor Leicester side last year. It’s difficult to stand out in a team that’s struggling and poor.

“With Solomon coming in, I think it will take time. In all honesty, it’s a like-for-kike swap. Look at Lucas Moura coming out of the squad and him coming in. He’s almost a direct replacement.

“We know that Kulusevski has signed a permanent deal now. But the style of football is going to change at Tottenham, and he’s the exact type of player that Postecoglou wants.

In other Tottenham news, two Spurs youngsters could be set for an impact next season after a good pre-season start.
