Paul Robinson has spotted something else special about Maddison after ‘watching him live’ at Tottenham
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
James Maddison looks like he’s been at Tottenham “for years” with everything good in the attack going through him, according to Paul Robinson.
Maddison’s arrival has coincided with the club’s impressive start to the season after their unbeaten start to the league and fourth-place spot in the table.
Robinson has been left impressed by the 26-year-old and notes how well he fits into Ange Postecoglou’s system with his astute vision and positional play.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “The way that Maddison’s settled into the side in a similar way that Declan Rice has done at Arsenal, they both look like they’ve been there for years. [He suits the] way Postecoglou is playing, on the front foot and the way that he wants to break the lines.
“The players that he’s got around him, with the likes of Manor Solomon, Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison. The runs that they have forward off the ball. Maddison’s got the vision and you can see that. Yes, he’s got goals, but his assists are another thing.

“He’s just got all-around quality. He’s got an eye for a ball, an eye for a pass. Watching him live a couple of times this season, you can see the positions that he takes up as well when he hasn’t got the ball.
“Everything good that Spurs have done his season, most of it has gone through him.”
