Paul Robinson: It would be disappointing if Tottenham don’t qualify for Champions League from here
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
It would be “disappointing” for Tottenham not to qualify for the Champions League this season after their unbeaten start to the Premier League, according to Paul Robinson.
Spurs’ unprecedented start to the season has seen them top of the Premier League table during the second international break with big wins over Manchester United and Liverpool and a hard-fought point against Arsenal to their name.
Before the season kicked off, many questioned if Ange Postecoglou was up to the task of managing one of the world’s biggest teams. No one is questioning the Australian now though, and Spurs’ chances of returning to the Champions League look greater with each passing week.

Robinson claims that considering the pitfalls of their rivals, Tottenham have the chance to return to the top four, while suggesting that no club will run away with the title this season.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “It would be disappointing, obviously, because of the way they’ve started and the platform that they’ve given themselves. Can they kick on and continue this for a long period of time?
“Look at the league, you look when other teams that have won the league. Manchester City have started to falter at the moment, Liverpool, and Arsenal are there and thereabouts, but Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool would be the three that you would look at.
“City have lost games recently, which you would have not expected them to lose at all. Arsenal at the moment with the Champions League and the league form, can they continue it?

“I don’t think anyone’s going to run away with the league with 100 points this year like City have done before. I predicted they would at the start of the season, but at the moment, they’re just in a little rut, aren’t they?
“Can Tottenham be in there for the top four? Chelsea are not going to be there, Manchester United are not going to be there. Can Newcastle cope with the Champions League?
“There’s every chance that Spurs can, but not just because of other teams’ failings but because of the opportunities that are there and they can capitalise on this. It’s not just a few games now, they’re well into the season.
“Tottenham haven’t got European football to as a side track, they haven’t got the Carabao Cup as a sidetrack, but we’ll see.”
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou has named two U21 players who have “really stood out”.
