Paul Robinson: Is Richarlison capable of replacing Harry Kane at Tottenham?

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Paul Robinson believes Richarlison could be the man to replace Harry Kane if he leaves, stating the Brazilian has not been given a fair opportunity at Tottenham.

Richarlison’s first season at Spurs has not lived up to expectations. The £60million fee [ESPN] must have felt like a ball-and-chain on the former Everton man’s ankle as he struggled to find form with just one goal in the Premier League.

However, the atmosphere at Spurs last season was often uncomfortable. Richarlison told the Que Papinho podcast on Friday (7 July) that then-manager Antonio Conte spent two hours scolding him in a team meeting last season.

With life under Ange Postecoglou looking to be less intense, perhaps Richarlison can have a career redemption and become the main man if Kane makes the reported switch to Bayern Munich [The Guardian].

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, “Richarlison, is he the answer?

“I personally don’t think he’s had a fair opportunity in a Spurs shirt yet. I think his versatility has been his own biggest downfall. His ability to play in different positions, left side, right side or as a number nine.

“I think he prefers playing as a number nine, as we saw in the World Cup for Brazil. I don’t think he’s been given that opportunity. Is he the answer? Would he be given the opportunity if Harry Kane leaves?

“If Harry goes, then depending on what style the manager wants to play and if he wants that figurehead number nine.

“It’s going to leave one hell of a big hole.”

In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou has been backed to give a £108million forward a fresh start.
