Paul Robinson: Harry Kane decision will split fans amid reported Levy-Bayern meeting

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is “between a rock and a hard place” in regard to the Harry Kane transfer saga.

Levy has a tough choice to make: sell Kane now or lose him for free next summer. Bayern Munich’s most recent bid of £70million was not enough to tempt the owner into a sale [The Mirror], but recent reports of Bayern’s chief Executive Jan-Christian Dreesen held a morning meeting with Levy [The Mirror] suggest the cogs may be turning behind the scenes.

Spurs fans will be split on what they think Kane should do, as his presence in the squad gives them a significantly higher chance of Champions League qualification and a first trophy in 15 years.

Robinson claims that either outcome will have its benefits, but that Levy’s choice is not envyable.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Spurs fans have different opinions of the chairman and the ownership. This situation will split opinions more than anything. The chairman and the owners are between a rock and a hard place.

Do they take the risk of keeping hold of Kane until the end of the season to hopefully roll the dice for a Champions League place? Or will they counter the risk, sell him now and get the money in?

Whatever they do, it will divide opinions. Some will think it’s the right decision and some will think it’s the wrong decision. So, I don’t think they can do particularly badly wrong in this situation because if Kane stays the majority will be absolutely delighted.

“If he goes, people will be understanding as to why. I don’t think this is a situation where anybody can come out badly unless the club turnaround and undersell him.”

In other Tottenham news, Robinson has backed new signing Manor Solomon to make an impact at Spurs, but may need time before breaking into the starting 11.
