Tottenham gem ‘to sign three-year extension’ after contract development

Tottenham could see one talented youngster sign a three-year extension after a behind-the-scenes contract development.

Ange Postecoglou’s squad is full of young players who appear to have bright futures in North London.

Teenage trio Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Mikey Moore are already featuring regularly for the first team, while Luca Williams-Barnett could make that jump himself next season.

Meanwhile, Spurs will have the likes of Jamie Donley and Josh Keeley to take a closer look at in pre-season when they return from loan. However, one player who is flying under the radar is Oliver Irow.

The 18-year-old has been in fine form for Spurs’ Under-21s this season, scoring once again in a 3-2 Premier League 2 defeat to Wolves at the Lamex Stadium on Friday (21 February), and could yet extend his stay at the club beyond the summer.

Tottenham offer Irow a brand-new contract

Irow is understood to be out of contract at Tottenham this summer.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham exclusively revealed to Tottenham News recently that the youngster had been offered fresh terms at the club.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated that the contract on offer would see Irow extend his stay in North London until 2028.

“I think Irow is one that you would want to keep around,” Wenham said.

“We’ve seen the likes of Damola Ajayi and Yusuf Akhamrich renew until 2028 recently, and I think it would be a similar sort of contract for Irow.

“I think several Under-21s players will leave Tottenham in the summer. However, Irow is certainly one that I expect Tottenham to keep, if possible, especially with his brother Blake Irow playing at the club.

“Hopefully if he does stick around, a loan can be arranged for next season.”

Tottenham should look to keep hold of Irow

Irow scored 16 goals in 38 games for Spurs’ Under-18s.

This season is his first at Under-21 level. Therefore, four goals in 14 Premier League 2 games for a struggling Under-21s team is not a bad return. As a result, Spurs should be looking to keep hold of the player to see how he continues to develop.

And if they want to convince him to sign a new contract, demonstarting to him that there is a pathway to the first team would be the wise thing for Postecoglou to do.

With the UEFA Europa League set to return, rotation will be needed as Postecoglou looks to keep his players fit for Europe. Therefore, the Australian could hand opportunities to some younger players in the Premier League, and Irow could be one of those players.
