Mikey Moore set for rare start v Aston Villa in Tottenham team news reveal

Mikey Moore could be handed a start for Tottenham for the trip to face Aston Villa on Friday.

Spurs have travelled north ready to face Unai Emery and his Villa side as their race to qualify for the Champions League continues.

Ange Postecoglou has similar concerns, but his eyes will be on the upcoming Europa League final, which could see his side take a spot in Europe’s elite competition.

As a result, squad rotation at Villa Park on 16 May is likely, in a move which could seek to benefit Moore in a rare opportunity for the Lilywhites.

Moore could start for Tottenham v Aston Villa

Looking ahead to a European final, all thoughts and feelings should be positive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium right now.

That isn’t necessarily the case, ready for the clash in B6 after Dejan Kulusevski was confirmed to be out of the showpiece fixture in Bilbao.

This has dampened the atmosphere around the North London outfit and could be set to have a telling impact on the starting 11 chosen against the Villans.

This could see Postecoglou make a large number of changes to avoid any further fitness problems for his side’s first-team stars.

As a result, Moore could be set to be handed just his third Premier League start of the season, says former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Allen said: “It will be a perfect opportunity for someone like Mikey Moore, who’s a very good player and is going to have a bright future, to step up and step in.

Postecoglou will want to give him the opportunity to play in the first team after being a substitute for most of the season.

That’ll give him a chance to say, ‘Come on, boys, let’s get out and play our stuff.’

Moore could prove himself v Aston Villa

Everyone associated with the Lilywhites knows exactly how much potential the 17-year-old has and what sort of player he could become.

With that in mind, it does feel to many as if he hasn’t played enough minutes this season and, as a result, must prove himself against Villa.

Coming up against the likes of Matty Cash or Ian Maatsen could prove to be the perfect opportunity for the England under-19 international to show his class.

It will certainly be interesting to then see how his ability on the ball compares to the likes of Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert, who have both played more minutes than the teenager.
