Levy faces major Tottenham PSR worry, attacker could leave – Exclusive

Tottenham’s summer transfer business may hinge on what they can achieve in the Europa League over the next few weeks.

Ahead of the second leg against Bodo/Glimt, Tottenham‘s only focus will be on progressing through to the Europa League final.

Not only is it their only remaining chance of winning silverware, but it is their final route to achieve European qualification for the new campaign.

A failure to do that will have several knock-on effects, potentially affecting their ability to recruit players once the summer window comes around.

Europa League success will be crucial to recruitment plans

Not only does the future of Ange Postecoglou hang in the balance, but the same can be said for their recruitment plans, given that they can’t yet guarantee European football for potential signings.

Taking that into account, Paul Robinson thinks they may have a tough time trying to attract players to move to North London, with the transfer of Mathys Tel a prime example.

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: “Financially, you have to cut your cloth accordingly now because of FFP and PSR. And without the income, Tottenham might be in a situation where they have to look at that.

Tel has not had the desired impact since arriving at Tottenham on loan.

“If you’re going to attract players to the club, you look at Mathys Tel in January. He didn’t want to come initially. One of the best young talents, allegedly, in Europe. He hasn’t proved himself at Tottenham at all. Bayern Munich were willing to let him go. There were no other suitors for him.

“He turned Tottenham down initially, ended up coming because there was nobody else looking at him. But his initial thought was that when Tottenham came, he went, ‘no, not for me’. Tottenham are a bottom-half Premier League club at the moment, potentially finishing 16th or 17th without European football, without Champions League football.

“It’s not an attractive proposition for top players.”

Tottenham must recruit smartly this summer

If Spurs can win the Europa League and secure Champions League football, they will be handed a perhaps undeserved lifeline when it comes to recruitment.

A Tottenham side with that offer is far more attractive than one that can’t, and they will need to use that to their advantage when the summer arrives.

With Fabio Paratici mooted for a return, Spurs will be afforded no margin for error when it comes to transfer dealings.
