Massimiliano Allegri to Tottenham: Ex-Spurs employee speaks out as talks held
Massimiliano Allegri is one of the many managers who could take over from Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.
Postecoglou is safe in North London for now [via Football London, 20 January], however, that could soon change if Spurs’ form doesn’t show any signs of improvement.
Should the Australian be sacked, Daniel Levy would once again need to hire a new manager, with names such as Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe and even Sean Dyche floating around.
Meanwhile, Allegri is perhaps the most high-profile manager to be linked with the Spurs job, with Levy having already held informal talks with the former Juventus boss [via Corriere Dello Sport, 18 January].
However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the club would be better off sticking by Postecoglou than hiring Allegri.
“Allegri isn’t the man for the job,” King said.
“He’s one of those managers who has only ever achieved things at a club like Juventus. I don’t think his name is big enough to sort out the problems in North London if Postecoglou goes.
“Personally, I would just keep Postecglou, if that is how the club are thinking.”
Massimiliano Allegri to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham?
Allegri is a big-name manager who has experience winning some of the biggest trophies in European football. However, that does not guarantee that he would be a success in North London.
Antonio Conte and José Mourinho – who is trying to sign a current Spurs star [via Fotomac, 15 January] – are both serial winners who failed to achieve success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Therefore, there is every chance that the exact same thing could happen to Allegri if he were to take over from Postecoglou.

However, if Levy is to fire Postecoglou, it is possible that the Spurs chairman could once again choose to appoint a big-name manager in search of a quick fix, despite previous failed attempts.
As a result, Allegri could be approached, as he would fit that criteria.
