Leeds United sell-on clause needed for Archie Gray deal amid latest Tottenham transfer news
Tottenham-linked Archie Gray will “cost a lot of money” because he is in a “fortunate position” at Leeds United, Paul Robinson has said.
Teenage gem Gray has had a hugely successful breakout season at Elland Road with his performances earning him the Championship’s Young Player of the Year award (Leeds official website).
It was reported by Football League World (2 April) that Spurs have joined Liverpool in the race for the 18-year-old, who is a central midfielder by trade but played much of the season at right-back.
Gray only signed a new contract with Leeds until 2028 back in January (The Athletic) and Robinson thinks he has the luxury of being able to take time to decide what he wants to do next.
Asked by Tottenham News about the links to Spurs, Robinson – who played for both clubs – said: “I think the player is in a very fortunate position where he’s had an excellent season this season.
“His valuation is a valuation that will please Leeds United this season, it’s a very strong valuation and one that will carry.
“He will cost a lot of money if he is to be taken away from Leeds and the thing with that type of deal from the club’s point of view is the add-ons you’d put in the sell-on clause if that was to happen.
“When certain targets and certain achievements are met over his career then that will always be a drip feed back to Leeds united.
“But I don’t for one moment think that a promotion or a campaign in the Premier League is vital to his career, I think whether he has another season in the Championship. or the Premier League, or a move, whatever’s best for his development because he can handle it. He’s shown he can handle it.”
Tottenham to enter transfer race for Leeds United ace Archie Gray?
There are a lot of moving parts to consider here. First of all, Gray 100 per cent fits the profile of player that Ange Postecoglou would love to add to his Tottenham squad.
But Leeds hold a lot of power having committed Gray to a deal until June 2028. It means any club wanting to sign him are going to have to pay mega bucks.

Those bucks will be more mega if Leeds manage to earn promotion back to the Premier League because they will have the bargaining power of being a top-flight club.
So, don’t rule out the possibility that Tottenham will take a look at Gray this summer transfer window. But don’t see it as a foregone conclusion they could sign him.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been told to prioritise the signing of Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher.
