Keeley ‘frustrated’ after what Tottenham did ahead of exit – Exclusive

Josh Keeley made his shock and unexpected exit from Tottenham earlier this week.

When Keeley joined Tottenham from St Patrick’s Athletic in 2022, it was with the intention that he would eventually be integrated into the first team.

However, things did not go quite as planned. He was a regular for Spurs’ Under-21s before joining Barnet on loan midway through the 2023/24 campaign.

Keeley then made a big impression last season with Leyton Orient, where the goalkeeper made 36 appearances and kept 16 clean sheets.

But that was not enough to tie the young keeper down at Tottenham as he prepares to embark on a new adventure.

Keeley leaves Tottenham after Antonin Kinsky decision

Tottenham announced on Saturday (19 July) an agreement with Luton Town for the transfer of Keeley.

This comes after Spurs signed Antonin Kinsky on a six-and-a-half-year contract in January. The keeper made his debut during the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool last season.

While a good investment for Spurs, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the deal pushed Keeley to leave.

“I think the writing was on the wall for Keeley, regardless of how successful his loan was, when Tottenham decided to sign Kinsky last January,” Wenham said.

“So at that point, Josh was absolutely excelling on loan. He had a really good first loan at Barnet last year, jumped two divisions to Orient, probably the best keeper in that division.

“Last year, he was doing really well, and then Tottenham signed a goalkeeper of the exact same age from abroad for £13million. That was obviously very frustrating for Keeley and his people, and understandably so, because there wasn’t much more he could have done.”

Kinsky could have more minutes under Thomas Frank

Kinsky keeper made 10 appearances for Ange Postecoglou last season and could be given more chances under Thomas Frank.

He was named in the first team that lined up to face Reading during their 2-0 victory at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday (19 July).

It has been suggested that Spurs’ pre-season tour will paint a clearer picture of Frank’s plans for next season. As a result, if Kinsky continues to get gametime, it could be a strong indicator of what is to come.
