John Wenham wants to see ‘improved’ Giovani Lo Celso given another chance at Tottenham
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Giovani Lo Celso has returned to Tottenham “a new man” and deserves a second chance at the club, according to John Wenham.
Lo Celso arrived in North London four years ago and has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League, twice being sent out on loan to Villarreal.
Much like Tanguy Ndombele, many thought that the midfielder was a costly mistake and his time at the club would soon be up, although he has impressed during pre-season and could be set for yet another chance at Hotspur Way.

And Wenham believes that he could make a difference for the club this season under Ange Postecoglou in the Australian boss’ system, which is a very different style of football to that of his predecessors.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “In regard to Giovani Lo Celso, I was absolutely adamant that he should be one of the first out the door, owing to the lack of contribution we’ve seen from him and owing to things I’ve heard about his personality and style at the training ground.
“But since he’s come back, he has been like a new man. There are reports that since he’s come back this summer, his grasp and understanding of the culture of the club is far improved, and his understanding of English as well as his interactions with other members of the squad, rather than just the South American players, is far greater.
“Everybody grows up at different stages, he might have just grown up, realised he is at a big club in Tottenham, and wants to establish himself.

“I think in that role, along with Maddison, he could be an influential player for Tottenham this season.
“I was very impressed with what I saw from him during pre-season, and I think Lo Celso will be the surprise this year. I think he has the potential, he’s been given a new lease of life and it is like a new signing.“
In other Tottenham News, Hugo Lloris is in talks with a European club to get his move away from the Premier League this summer.
