John Wenham: Tottenham Women start ‘chalk and cheese’ from last season
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham has described the performances of Tottenham Women so far this season as “chalk and cheese” when compared to their displays last term.
Robert Vilahamn has enjoyed a positive start to life as Tottenham Women manager, winning two of his opening three games and seeing his side score 10 goals in the process.
There were even plenty of positives to take from their one defeat, as they ran last season’s WSL winners Chelsea close in their own backyard, losing 2-1 in the end.

And Wenham believes that all the signs are pointing toward a positive season for Vilahamn and his squad.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Although they lost the opening game away at Chelsea, the performance was chalk and cheese from what we saw last season.
“They went to Chelsea, one of the best teams in that division, one of the teams that invest the most, and they really stuck it on them and gave a good account of themselves.
“Their head coach Robert Vilahamn said this summer that we’re going to see a different team and we’re going to have our own identity and he has so far stuck to his word.

“They got that first league win against Bristol City, and they thrashed Reading in the Conti Cup, so overall really positive signs so far, and I think they can be happy with their work. I think we will see a far different set of results this season.
“I never expect them to challenge towards the top because they just don’t spend the same money that other teams do, but I certainly expect a mid-table finish and nothing like where they were last year, hovering around relegation with one or two games to go.”
In other Tottenham news, one Spurs star’s omission from his national team is as much a mystery as it is a blessing for the club.
