John Wenham: Tottenham Under-18s star Leo Black ‘reminds me of Tariq Lamptey’
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham has compared Tottenham Under-18 prospect Leo Black to Brighton star Tariq Lamptey after the youngster’s bright start to the season.
Spurs’ Under-18s, just like the Under-21s, are flying at the moment, having won six games in a row in all competitions.
Their most recent win was a 7-2 thumping of Norwich City, which moved them to the top of the Under-18 Premier League South.

And Wenham says two players in particular have stood out to him this season.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Among the Tottenham Under-18s squad, it is the full-backs that have impressed me most, Leo Black the right back and Maeson King, the left back.
“These are players who had gone under the radar previously, not just for general supporters, but even for me as an avid youth watcher, they hadn’t really stood out to me before this season.
“However, since they have been playing in the same system as the first team, they have come on leaps and bounds.
“Leo Black looks so comfortable coming into that midfield role, he grabbed another fantastic assist during the most recent win against Norwich and when I watch him play, he reminds me of Tariq Lamptey when he was coming through, in terms of his size and diminutive ability on the ball.

“As for Maeson King, that Norwich game was without a doubt the best I’ve ever seen him play for Tottenham. He got a couple of nice assists as well and was a constant threat, bombing forward from left back.
“Overall, they’ve both developed really well.”
