John Wenham: Tottenham ace Pedro Porro ‘right up there’ with best Premier League right-backs
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham believes Tottenham defender Pedro Porro is “right up there” with the best right-backs in the Premier League.
Porro has had an excellent start to the 2023/24 campaign and life under his new manager Ange Postecoglou.
After initially being dropped for Emerson Royal for the first Premier League game of the season, a 2-2 draw away at Brentford, the Spaniard has started the last seven league matches in a row and is clearly the preferred choice at right-back.

And Wenham believes that his performances so far have justified his continued selection.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I have been really impressed with Porro.
“At the start of the season, people were suggesting we couldn’t play him at right back and he and Destiny Udogie wouldn’t be able to play together.
“Yet, so far this season, Udogie has been the best left back in the Premier League and Porro is right up there in terms of right backs.
“He can actually play football, he has been brilliant at that inverted role, picking up the ball in midfield and laying off passes. His throughball at Burnley for Son Heung-min was a Kevin De Bruyne-esque pass.

“It has been such an impressive start to the season, and it won’t be long until he is back in the Spain squad, although the fact that he was left out during this international break suits us, as he has been able to stay at Hotspur Way and continue working with Postecoglou and his coaching staff.”
In other Tottenham news, one first-team star has allayed injury concerns after he was spotted limping during an international friendly.
