John Wenham ‘thankful’ for international break, believes it can benefit Tottenham
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham is “thankful” for the international break and believes it can benefit the Tottenham fringe players as they look to make a “positive impact” at the club upon their return.
Many supporters dread the international break, but for Ange Postecoglou and the Spurs faithful, it might have arrived just at the right time.
Tottenham head into the break off the back of two consecutive defeats having lost a number of players to injury and suspension.

As a result, Wenham believes the two-week break is crucial for players who aren’t at the top of the pecking order at Spurs, who will now be required to step up in the absence of the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I’m thankful there’s an international break right now.
“Hopefully some of the players who have been struggling with fitness or getting minutes on the pitch can have two weeks now of building up their fitness levels.
“We’ve got two huge games coming up, starting with the home match against Aston Villa, where we’re now going to be without Yves Bissouma as well after his fifth yellow card, which is incredibly frustrating.

“Rodrigo Bentancur is going away with Uruguay, which some people aren’t happy about. But I actually hope he does get two games under his belt so we can use that fitness he builds up to slot him back in at Tottenham.
“Giovani Lo Celso is away with Argentina and hopefully he’ll get some minutes as well because we need some of these fringe players to get some game time in order to have a positive impact for Tottenham.”
