John Wenham praises Ange Postecoglou for making ‘correct’ Tottenham captaincy decision
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Having “leaders” all across the pitch, following the appointment of the club’s new captain and vice-captains, will be helpful for Tottenham this season, according to John Wenham.
Replacing the leadership of Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane was never going to be easy, due to the importance both players held within the ranks at Tottenham during their time at the club.
Yet with Kane now at Bayern Munich and Lloris seemingly on his way out, someone had to step up to the plate, and Ange Postecoglou decided that man would be Son Heung-min, with James Maddison and Cristian Romero acting as his vice-captains.

And Wenham believes that Postecoglou’s decision was a smart one, pointing particularly toward the vice-captain appointments.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Making Son captain was the correct decision.
“He was certainly somebody who Ange referenced as the leader of the group and somebody that joins up all the players in the squad. They all know him, and they all like him so it was definitely a sensible decision.
“I also liked the selections of Maddison and Romero because you basically cover the full pitch with those three now.

“With the idea, if they all feel like leaders, then we’re going to do well, with lots of people taking authority and demanding more of each other.
“I also really liked the huddle before the game in front of the away end at Brentford. That was a really good way of symbolising this new era of Tottenham and the Ange reign being underway.”
In other Tottenham news, Wenham believes that Richarlison deserves the opportunity to prove himself as Spurs’ main man.
