John Wenham hopeful Tottenham Under-18s thrashing at Villa Park was a ‘one off’

Tottenham’s youngsters made a “disappointing” start to their Under-18 Premier League campaign, despite having a “good” team on display, according to John Wenham.

On Saturday 12 August, Spurs’ academy prospects travelled to Birmingham to take on Aston Villa in their opening match of the Premier League Under-18 campaign, and it did not go to plan as they were comfortably beaten 4-0.

They have been without a competitive fixture since, and now have a chance to put things right this weekend when they take on North London rivals Arsenal, away from home, on Saturday 26 August.

And Wenham is hopeful that they can bounce back after being left surprised by their performance during their match against the Villains.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “That was a disappointing result because we had a fairly decent team out there. We had some very good players such as Tyrese Hall captaining the side, Oliver Irow in there too.

“So, I was a bit taken aback by that result, especially considering we had beaten Aston Villa Under 18’s in the Premier League Cup final at Villa Park last season.

“Hopefully we can put that down to a one-off because a team that’s got Mikey Moore, Callum Olusesi, Tyrese Hall, Oliver Irow, and some good defenders as well such as James Rowswell, Kieran Morgan and Calum Logan, who signed from Ipswich Town in the summer, should do better.

“It was a good Tottenham team on show, and they shouldn’t be getting beaten like that. Hopefully, they can put it right this weekend.
