John Wenham expects ‘exciting’ Tottenham Women’s team to continue progressing
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Tottenham Women could be set for an “exciting” season after last year’s disappointing WSL campaign, in which they narrowly avoided relegation, according to John Wenham.
It has been a busy couple of months for the Tottenham Women’s team who have seen a new manager arrive, as well as a host of additions to the first-team squad.
Robert Vilahamn has taken over the side, who get their WSL season underway with a trip to Stamford Bridge where they will meet last season’s champions Chelsea on 1 October. A host of international talent has arrived at Hotspur Way and things like much more promising than they did midway through last season.

And Wenham expects the club to continue moving forward and increasing the quality of their women’s team.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “At the end of last season, they released a large group of players, six of them in total.
“I think each year, they’re just trying to raise the bar of what level you have to be at in order to stay at the club basically.
“Obviously, this summer, they have signed a couple of players, Grace Clinton from Manchester United and Barbora Votikova, who has played for PSG, a pretty good women’s side who play at a decent level in the Champions League.

“So, as I mentioned, it just seems like every summer they’re raising the bar, and wanting to improve, wanting to get better, and I think that’s great to see, especially in line with the England national team’s success.
“I think they’ll continue to make signings until the season starts and it could be a really exciting campaign for them.”
In other Tottenham news, Wenham is also feeling much more confident about Spurs’ backline following some new arrivals this summer.
