The Ange Postecoglou era got up and running with a draw away at Brentford on Sunday 13 August and Maddison, who was making his debut for the club, looked brilliant during his first match in Lilywhite colours.

Besides his two assists for the goals, he was fantastic on the ball, constantly finding pockets of space and looking to create. Having taken the number 10 shirt from Harry Kane after the Spurs icon departed for Bayern Munich, the pressure would have been on him to perform.

“There was a moment when Ivan Perisic came on during the second off, he didn’t pass him the ball and Madison absolutely screamed at him. He just looks like he’s been there for ten years, even though he’s only been there this summer, with that being his first proper game.

“To see him finish with the armband and see him clapping the Tottenham fans when he got a corner early on, I just thought he was absolutely brilliant.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing him as a Tottenham player over this season.”
