John Wenham ‘couldn’t be any happier’ with the Tottenham team after the Burnley result
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Tottenham bounced back from their Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Fulham with an emphatic 5-2 victory in the Premier League away at Burnley, on Saturday (2 September).
With just five minutes on the clock, Ange Postecoglou’s men found themselves behind in Lancashire and many supporters would have feared the worst. It seemed as if the same old story was about to unfold and Spurs’ early season momentum was set to come to a crashing halt.
However, this is not the same old Spurs, this is Postecoglou’s Spurs, and they responded brilliantly to the setback, coming from behind to win the game comprehensively.

And Wenham was delighted with the performance of every player on the pitch at Turf Moor.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I couldn’t be any happier because we went a goal down and Burnley fully deserved that early lead. They were causing us problems and Pedro Porro got caught out, but boy did he redeem himself.
“I thought he was fantastic, especially the assist for Son Heung-min’s third goal, it’s one that Kevin De Bruyne would be proud of, cutting through the midfield and playing that ball.

“Destiny Udogie again was just a phenomenon. At the start of the season, I was asked by somebody to put down who was my player to watch, and I’m feeling more and more vindicated as each game week goes by that I put Udogie. The world is his oyster in terms of his attributes, he’s got them all. He is involved in all our attacks, has pace and power, and has a good reading of the game defensively.
“James Maddison again just creating everything, every game he is influencing proceedings with his personality, his style, assists and the goal against Burnley was just fantastic. That was his second away game in a row where he has scored.
“Micky van de Ven at the back who started attacks by just brushing off forwards and playing arrowed through balls. Another one who is 22 years of age and is only going to get better.
“Delighted for Guglielmo Vicario in goal as well. He made a massive save and then celebrated it quite rightly, he’s got real passion. Hugo Lloris for all of his good attributes over the last decade had near to zero personality. Vicario is the polar opposite and I think that is what we’ve needed.

“Cristian Romero with an unbelievable finish yesterday. He’s really taken on that captaincy role very well. Son was back to his absolute best, and he now offers us a real option down the middle.
“I thought that Postecoglou used the subs bench really well, bringing five people on which keeps morale in the squad high.
“The only disappointment for me on the whole day was letting in that second goal for Burnley. It was really avoidable, we switched off a little bit and obviously, 5-1 would have been much more emphatic than 5-2.
“However, if you look at the stats now, we’re second in the table, one of the only teams to have played three away games from the opening four matches, we have already beaten a top-six team and have scored 11 times while conceding just four.”
In other Tottenham news, a young talented prospect for the women’s team is heading out on loan.
