John Wenham ‘concerned’ about Luka Vuskovic development ahead of Tottenham arrival

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham is “concerned” Luka Vuskovic will not be developed correctly ahead of his arrival at Tottenham in 2025 as Hajduk Split have already cashed in on the teenage talent.

Spurs officially announced (25 September) that they had reached an agreement with Hajduk for the transfer of 16-year-old Croatian centre-back Vuskovic.

He will join Spurs in 2025 when he turns 18 and is set to stay with his current side until that point.

This has left Wenham concerned as, although he is a big fan of the signing, he believes that Hajduk will see no reason to continue the youngster’s development now that they have cashed in on him.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Manchester City had a £12million bid turned down for him, PSG were quite heavily linked to him, a lot of big clubs with plenty of money to throw around were looking at him as a real talent, so overall I am really pleased with the signing.

“Suddenly, we’ve got a really exciting core group of young centre-backs with Micky van de Ven only being 22, Ashley Phillips who’s 19, Alfie Dorrington who is 18, in addition to Cristian Romero as well.

“The only thing I’m a little bit concerned about is now that Hajduk Split have got the money in the bank and a deal done for him, where’s their incentive to keep playing him?

“They might as well focus on the next version of him coming out of their academy or existing players at the club, rather than giving him beneficial game time and development opportunities when they’ve already banked the money.

“I think it would be wise for Tottenham to see if they could send him elsewhere on loan at the end of this season, in preparation for him joining Tottenham in 2025, somewhere where he will be playing every week.”

In other Tottenham news, the Under-18s’ recent result underpins the feel-good factor flowing through the club.
