John Wenham believes the Tottenham Women’s team must deliver after ‘underwhelming’ season
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Tottenham are “starting to invest” in their women’s team and will expect to see a greater return going forward after last year’s “underwhelming” campaign, according to John Wenham.
Spurs’ women narrowly avoided relegation from the WSL last year after a poor run of form. They finished two points above the drop zone after Vicky Jepson stepped in as interim boss and guided them to safety, following the sacking of Rehanne Skinner in March.
In response to this challenging league season, management changes have been made at the club with Robert Vilahamn taking over as head coach and Jepson stepping into an assistant role alongside the Swede.

Their WSL season gets underway on 1 October with a tricky trip to Stamford Bridge where they will take on last season’s champions Chelsea, and Wenham believes the club will want to see more after pouring some money into the women’s set-up.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Tottenham are starting to invest money in the women’s team, they have been doing this over the last 18 months or so.
“They secured their Nutribullet sponsor on the bottom of their shirt, which is a different sponsor to the men’s first team, and this will act as a different revenue stream for the club.

“Obviously for Tottenham, as they’re starting to invest more money now they will want to see better than what they saw last season, last year was incredibly underwhelming for the women’s team.
“It took right until the very end of the season for them to confirm their WSL status and Tottenham will want to see more for the money they’re investing.
“That’s why they’ve made the management changes and they will now hope to kick on next season.”
In other Tottenham News, the club’s Under-21s made a phenomenal start to their Premier League Two campaign.
