John Wenham believes that ‘fantastic’ Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham can benefit from being out of Europe
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Tottenham are set to be without European football for the first time in over a decade this season, which will benefit the club as they begin a “transition” period under Ange Postecoglou, according to John Wenham.
After a disappointing campaign last season, which saw Tottenham finish eighth in the Premier League, the club will be without any type of European football this season.
This would have left plenty of supporters feeling disappointed as they were forced to cancel their regular midweek trips abroad to watch their beloved club play European football’s finest sides.

However, Wenham believes that this will actually benefit the club going forward as they embark upon a new journey under Postecoglou.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I think being out of Europe will prove to be extremely beneficial, in terms of the players getting used to a totally new style of football from the way that they have been playing over the past few years.
“Understanding that we’re going to attack you, we’re Tottenham, we’ve got good forward players, we’re not going to just sit back.
“Whoever we’re playing, we are going to put you under pressure, we’re going to stick it on you, and we’ll see how you respond to that.

“So being out of Europe couldn’t have come at a better time, in terms of the transition we’re going through, which includes losing our best ever player, and in terms of bringing in new younger signings.
“By having one game a week, they have time to reflect on each performance. I think Ange Postecoglou is fantastic and this job couldn’t have come at a better time for him.
