John Wenham thrilled by ‘massive’ Tottenham display

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

Tottenham displayed a “real sign of progress” by taking a point at Arsenal in the North London derby, according to John Wenham.

Spurs hadn’t picked up any points at the home of their fiercest rivals since September 2019, when Mauricio Pochettino was still in charge of the club.

Since that time Daniel Levy has appointed four separate managers, three of whom have failed to avoid defeat at the Emirates, with Ange Postecoglou being the exception.

And Wenham believes that this result is a big step for the club moving forward.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Massive, if I’m being honest. It was a game we had not picked up anything in since the times of Mauricio Pochettino, so Postecoglou has already gone to the Emirates, one of the hardest places to pick up any points historically for Tottenham and got something, which our previous three managers failed to do.

“It was a real sign of progress the club is making as a whole, especially considering there were seven North London derby debutants, which is an incredibly high number, and a lot of those debutants were very young as well.

“I just thought Tottenham handled the whole occasion very well, and on another day could have maybe got all three points. We saw a fantastic move at the end of the game, which resulted in Pedro Porro delivering a cross, which had it been one second earlier, could have fallen to Son Heung min to complete his hat-trick.

“Overall, to keep the unbeaten run going and get one of the hardest fixtures out of the way is massive. Tottenham are already three points better off from the same fixtures last season after just six games, so we’re making huge progress, and I was really proud of the performance.”

In other Tottenham news, according to an injury expert, one senior player could be set for a six-month spell on the sidelines.
