John Wenham backs ‘world-class player’ Rodrigo Bentancur to get back to his best upon return
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
Rodrigo Bentancur will get back to his best and become a part of Tottenham’s “strongest midfield three” upon his return from injury, according to John Wenham.
During a Premier League match against Leicester at the King Power Stadium in February, Bentancur sustained a nasty ACL injury that kept him out for the remainder of the season.
After this, Spurs’ season began to slowly unravel as they were now without arguably one of the best midfielders at the club, and an exact date on the former Juventus man’s return to action is still yet to be provided.

And Wenham cannot wait for Bentancur to be match fit again, labelling the Uruguay international as “world class” and suggesting that the 26-year-old will only get “better and better” upon his return from injury.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I think he’s so good, honestly. I go back to last season, January time, I was saying to a lot of people that I thought he could end up in the PFA Team Of The Year.
“He was dominating games, scored five league goals, important goals as well. I always go back to that one at Bournemouth, not many people have the composure in the 93rd minute to chest down the ball and place it above the keeper in a crowded penalty box.

“I think he’s an outstanding, world-class player. I just see him getting better and better and yeah, look, it is a big injury for him, but everything I’ve seen from the way he’s taken his rehabilitation and training, he is taking it very, very seriously.
“He is working a lot, working hard. I fully back him that when he does come back fit, he will go into our strongest midfield three with Yves Bissouma and James Maddison, and I think that’s a really good midfield three.“
In other Tottenham News, the club are targeting a striker who has dominated in Portugal.
