Johan Lange slammed as major Tottenham transfer failings highlighted after summer window

Tottenham endured a summer of mixed fortunes in the transfer window.

The Lilywhites added eight new signings to their squad throughout the summer, as Thomas Frank was able to overhaul the squad in the manner that he desired.

Randal Kolo Muani arrived at Tottenham in an impressive piece of last-minute business on deadline day, and there is also plenty of excitement surrounding Xavi Simons.

However, Spurs’ business was hindered somewhat by their failure to nail down some of their targets, in a story that has become all too familiar over the years.

Johan Lange blasted for Eberechi Eze and Bryan Mbeumo failures

Tottenham’s failure to land Eberechi Eze was perhaps the most frustrating moment of their summer.

The Lilywhites appeared to have the Crystal Palace star within their grasp, only to lose out on him to their bitter rivals Arsenal.

It was a similar story with Bryan Mbeumo, with Frank and Co. showing a sustained interest and even placing bids for the forward, but ultimately coming away empty-handed.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that technical director Johan Lange is to blame for the failings, and feels that his work is leaving a lot to be desired at present.

“I’m not happy with the technical director Lange,” King said.

“He’s come from Aston Villa, but he never impressed me at Villa, and he certainly hasn’t impressed me with what he’s done at Spurs.

“The two players that I expected Spurs to sign were Eze and Mbeumo.

“How do you account for a player like Eze ending up at Arsenal?”

Tottenham need Xavi Simons signing to come off

Simons’ arrival at Spurs could compensate well for their frustrations over Eze if he comes into the team and hits the ground running.

However, if he struggles to find his feet in English football, then it will only add to the annoyance from supporters.

The Dutchman is a promising young talent, but he simply can’t match the proven Premier League track record that Eze would have provided.

Nevertheless, if Simons can establish himself as a key member of Frank’s team in the coming months, then the saga surrounding the England international will firmly be a thing of the past in N17.
