James McAtee ‘interested in Tottenham move’ amid £25m Man City transfer news
James McAtee could swap Manchester City for Tottenham this summer.
Spurs have already secured the signing of centre-back Kevin Danso, who has made an excellent impact since his arrival on loan in the winter transfer window.
The permanent signing of fellow winter arrival Mathys Tel is expected to follow before the Lilywhites look to expand their recruitment.
Despite Tottenham crying out for more experienced players to be brought in, the North London club will not completely deviate from their strategy to recruit promising talent.
As such, they have identified Manchester City’s James McAtee as a target and will be encouraged by the latest developments.

Champions League football could encourage McAtee to join Spurs
McAtee is the latest youth product to emerge from City’s famed academy, but like many before him, he has struggled to cement a spot in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side.
Nevertheless, he has impressed in the game time he has been afforded, and is an attractive proposition for Premier League clubs.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Minutes Played |
Premier League | 15 | 3 | 342′ |
Champions League | 5 | 1 | 106′ |
FA Cup | 4 | 3 | 228′ |
Carabao Cup | 2 | – | 180′ |
Tottenham will be especially drawn to the latest news of his £25million valuation, which would be considered a coup for such a highly-rated player with the England Under-21 international’s pedigree.
Ex-Tottenham Scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spurs have an edge in attracting the 22-year-old to the club as they have UEFA Champions League football to offer.
“The main thing for Tottenham is that they’re in the Champions League,” King said.
“Therefore, if McAtee is looking at his football future, he isn’t going to get much better than playing in the Champions League. As a result, I would think this transfer could be of interest.
“However, Tottenham would need to offload players to make this transfer work; they’re overloaded with midfielders at the moment. Also, a decision still needs to be made on Ange Postecoglou, as that decision will impact their transfer dealings.”

McAtee’s unique abilities are a perfect fit for Spurs
Goalscoring hasn’t been an issue under Postecoglou, but Tottenham have struggled to find the back of the net against low blocks.
As a unit, the side shares the scoring responsibilities, but very few individuals within the squad possess the ability to create something out of nothing to decide a tight game.
McAtee brings that unique quality and directness with his game, which could prove to be a vital asset in matches where Spurs are not quite in their groove.
