James Maddison urged to ‘get a hold of himself’ after what has happened at Tottenham
Bryan King has urged Tottenham star James Maddison to “get a hold of himself” after the midfielder’s recent struggles.
The ex-Spurs scout believes the 27-year-old needs to start performing more consistently.
Maddison has started just one of Spurs’ last four matches in all competitions, with the midfielder speculated to be unhappy in North London at the moment.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the Englishman needs to just keep his head down and get on with his job.
“You need your players, and you need a good squad,” King said.
“However, I’m not sure Spurs’ squad is as good as people think it is. They haven’t exactly set the world alight this season. Five or six of the midfielders are international players. Maddison has got to start improving and get a hold of himself.
“One week he’s playing like an England international and the next week he doesn’t even get a mention. I’d say to Maddison that you’re a highly paid professional, so start doing your job.”
James Maddison must improve under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
At one point, Maddison was one of the first names on the teamsheet in North London. However, he has fallen out of favour under Ange Postecoglou in recent weeks.
It has even got to the point where questions are being raised over a potential transfer in January (via Give Me Sport, 15 November).
However, that seems unlikely. While he might not have been starting as much in recent weeks, Maddison is still a key part of Postecoglou’s squad.

Therefore, he needs to rediscover that best form and remind supporters of just how good he can be.
In other Tottenham news, scouts from the club are watching a Valencia gem with a bid on the cards for January.
