Guglielmo Vicario slammed after ‘terrible’ Tottenham scenes v Nottingham Forest

Guglielmo Vicario was involved in a moment to forget as Nottingham Forest ran out 2-1 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday.

Ange Postecoglou remains under immense pressure and is expected to be sacked by Daniel Levy after Tottenham suffered their 18th Premier League defeat of the season on 21 April.

It was a miserable night in North London, with Tottenham’s “pathetic” announcement during the match summing up the absolute mess the Lilywhites are at the moment.

And Vicario’s woeful display certainly didn’t help matters on the night.

Vicario ‘at fault for Tottenham defeat against Nottingham Forest’

Elliot Anderson opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Chris Wood doubled Forest’s lead in the 16th minute, with Gabby Agbonlahor left raging at what he saw.

As well as Agbonlahor, Alan Smith was shocked by Spurs’ defending, expressing his disbelief after the second goal was scored at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes it was Vicario who was at fault for Wood’s goal.

“For Nottingham Forest, it was a big game,” King said.

“It should have been a big game for Tottenham, too. However, the way it started was quite frightening. Forest cut through the Tottenham defence so easily, and could have been three up inside 16 minutes. Vicario for the second goal was shocking.

“You’ve got the biggest player in the box, and the nearest person challenging him is the goalkeeper, who comes far too late. His reading of the situation was very poor. Even for the first one, I know it got a slight deflection, but he probably could have done a bit better with that one as well, although I’m not going to blame him for that goal.

“However, with the second, his reading of the situation was terrible. For an international goalkeeper, you cannot concede goals like that, and that resulted in Forest winning the game.”

Vicario needs to improve for Tottenham

While Spurs’ defeat against Forest was a frustrating one, it doesn’t mean anything in the context of the North London club’s season. As a result, Vicario’s mistakes weren’t too costly.

However, with the Europa League semi-final to come, the Italian needs to make sure he puts in a much-improved performance across the two legs against Bodø/Glimt.
