George Abbott set for loan switch next season as ‘outstanding’ Tottenham claim emerges

John Wenham believes Tottenham Under-21 ace George Abbott will leave the club on loan next season.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has praised the 18-year-old on an “outstanding” season in North London.

Abbott recently put pen to paper on a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which keeps him at the club until 2027 (via Spurs Academy on X, 9 May).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the Under-21 ace could be an ideal long-term replacement for Pedro Porro.

“Abbott had an outstanding season,” Wenham said.

“I think he will leave the club on loan next year, which will do him the world of good.

“He can play as comfortably at right back as he can in central midfield.

“This suggests that he could be a perfect fit for the inverted right-back role which Porro currently plays at Tottenham.

“That’s something that Postecoglou can look at in the future, but for now, I certainly think Abbott needs a loan move next season.”

Ange Postecoglou could have a long-term replacement for Pedro Porro at Tottenham

Porro has made the right-back role his own at Spurs.

However, Ange Postecoglou has a lack of options in this position beyond the Spaniard.

A backup right-back, who is comfortable playing in an inverted role, is desperately needed in North London.

If Abbott continues to progress in the right way, Postecoglou might have a solution to this problem right under his nose.
