Fraser Forster ‘to quit Tottenham imminently’, clubs queue up to sign him

Fraser Forster could quit Tottenham before the winter transfer window closes.

Brandon Austin started between the sticks as Ange Postecoglou’s side beat Hoffenheim 3-2 in the UEFA Europa League at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena on Thursday (23 January) in a match which wasn’t short of controversy.

Forster was named on the bench, with the goalkeeper previously mooted to leave Tottenham at the end of the season.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Forster’s potential Spurs exit could now be brought forward.

“It seems like Austin is firmly ahead of Forster in the pecking order,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, it is possible now that Forster moves on during the winter transfer window, especially if another team needs a goalkeeper. Austin seems to have established himself in front of Forster, and with Forster’s contract up in the summer, now would be a sensible time for him to move on.

“As a result, I could see Forster leaving the club imminently. I’m sure there will be plenty of clubs that could do with a homegrown goalkeeper as a back-up option, and Forster would be an attractive option.”

Fraser Forster to quit Tottenham before 3 February

Once Guglielmo Vicario is fit again, Forster could find himself fourth choice in North London. It represents quite the turn of events, with the 36-year-old having spent most of the past two seasons as an unchallenged number two.

Therefore, perhaps now is the time for Forster to leave Spurs – and he might not be the only goalkeeper on his way out, with Vicario thought to be unhappy after recent developments.

However, Spurs supporters will be more interested in players joining the club, not leaving, with Ange Postecoglou in desperate need of reinforcements.

In other Tottenham news, the club’s incoming transfer business looks to be finished after what Postecoglou said.
