Finance Expert shares James Maddison transfer verdict at Tottenham

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Tottenham...

Dan Plumley has insisted that the end of the football financial year made little difference to Tottenham confirming their move for James Maddison.

Clubs can use the June 30 finance deadline to bolster their accounts, something Leicester may have used to their advantage after relegation last season.

The finance expert did admit that it makes little difference to Spurs, though, with their positive accounts, as they paid a relatively good fee in the market.

“It doesn’t make a whole lot of difference as you can record things post-balance sheet,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“If you look at where the date falls, there is always a bit of you’ve got to file the paperwork and that can take a little bit of time. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t make that much difference and from Spurs’ point of view, a good signing and a relatively good fee in the market.”

If there is one person who would think about all of the finer details to do with the finances behind the transfer, it would be Daniel Levy, everyone knows that.

Thankfully, the chequebook was opening and everyone can look forward to watching Maddison in white in the Premier League next season.
