Expert: Tottenham Under-18 player Mikey Moore in line to be ‘promoted’

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham has suggested that Tottenham Under-18s star Mikey Moore could be “permanently promoted” to the Under-21s set-up for the second half of the season.

Moore has been flying for the Under-18s this season, with his eight goals and five assists helping Tottenham to the top of the U18 Premier League South after seven games.

That form has translated to the international stage as well, with the winger recently scoring a hattrick for England Under-17s during their 5-1 win against Croatia in their UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifier on 9 November.

With all this in mind, despite Moore still only being 16, Wenham believes that the forward could be in line for a promotion to Under-21 football, suggesting that loan moves for two current Under-21 stars could pave the way.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I couldn’t be happier with how the Under-21s are progressing, and I believe that Wayne Burnett is doing an outstanding job.

“They are playing some really good football, and the link-up play between Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear in particular is really special.

“Longer term, if we’re looking now at the January transfer window, I expect to see some of our attacking stars head out on loan, and if I was to be pressed for an answer, I would suggest those players will be Donley and Jude Soonsup-Bell.

“This would open the door for Moore to be promoted, especially after his performances during the recent internationals.

“I think he will be permanently promoted to the Under-21s for the second half of the season.”

In other Tottenham news, one of the club’s first-team stars had a night to forget internationally, with one particular 0 per cent stat not good enough.
