Exclusive: Tottenham new manager to tell Levy who to get rid of amid Aston Villa talk

Tottenham could have a new manager calling the shots this summer as speculation around Ange Postecoglou’s future continues to swirl.

Postecoglou could soon be sacked by Daniel Levy.

In terms of potential replacements, Mauricio Pochettino could seal a sensational Spurs return, while Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are all in the running.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a shock option. Therefore, it is clear that Levy wouldn’t have a shortage of options should he decide to sack Postecoglou.

And whoever does potentially take over from the Australian would be the man calling the shots on which players to keep and sell, as one first-team star is linked with a move to Aston Villa.

Levy ‘to wait for instruction from new manager at Tottenham’

Spurs have several players who could potentially move on from the club this summer, such as Rodrigo Bentancur, who has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

However, if Levy is going to bring in a new manager, Spurs will need to hold off on making any signings or selling any players until that new manager is brought in, as that new manager might want to keep players, such as Bentancur.

The same can be said about Yves Bissouma, who is of interest to Aston Villa [GiveMeSport].

Therefore, according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – Spurs could wait to see what happens with Postecoglou before making decisions on these players.

“I wouldn’t have thought Spurs would benefit from selling Bissouma to Villa,” King said.

“I would’ve thought they’d benefit from selling him to a European club. Letting a player go to another Premier League club might be good for the player, and he might be an asset for Villa, but it wouldn’t be of benefit to Tottenham. Are his poor performances this season down to him or the management?

“However, we don’t know what is going to happen here. Will there be a new manager? I think there are going to be major changes in the summer. I think any new manager that comes in will asses the squad and let Levy know who he wants to get rid of and who he wants to keep.

“Bissouma has only got a year left on his deal, and knowing Spurs they will want a fee for him, so a deal would have to be done in the summer.”

Levy must wait before greenlighting sales at Tottenham

Spurs could sell a player who any potential incoming manager wanted to keep. Bissouma hasn’t flourished under Postecoglou, but he could hit the ground running under a different manager.

Therefore, a decision on Postecoglou’s future needs to be made imminently. If Spurs are going to sack the 59-year-old, they need to do it early enough that there is time for a new manager to have control during the summer transfer window.

However, if the club are going to stick by Postecoglou, that decision also needs to be made clear as soon as the season ends.
