Exclusive: ‘Tottenham midfielders to quit’ as Wolves transfer news emerges

Tottenham could see several midfielders quit the club this summer as the club contemplates a bid for one Wolves player who is set to cost at least £50million.

It could be yet another summer of change in North London.

Ange Postecoglou faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and could be sacked by Daniel Levy. However, there could be changes on the pitch as well.

Spurs already have a host of midfielders, with Yves Bissouma’s long-term future undecided.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Bentancur could also leave Tottenham, while the club also have Pape Matar Sarr, James Maddison, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski on their books.

Therefore, if a new midfielder is to be signed, it is expected that some room might have to be made.

Tottenham could make big changes in midfield

As reported by GiveMeSport (21 March), Tottenham are contemplating launching a bid for Wolves midfielder João Gomes, who will cost a minimum of £50m, in the summer transfer window.

As a result, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes this means some players already in North London could be on the move in the summer.

“If they’re looking at a player in midfield it means there are going to be players in midfield who are leaving the club,” King said.

“I don’t question the quality of the Tottenham midfielders, I just question where they’re playing sometimes. I think the consistency within the midfield is as much a problem as the quality.

“However, if reports are coming out that they’re looking at new midfield players, I would have thought they’d be aiming higher than this. Gomes might be a decent player, but he hasn’t exactly been the outstanding player for Wolves in a disappointing season.”

Gomes could grow at Tottenham

Gomes is still only 24 years old.

Despite Wolves’ struggles this season, the midfielder has impressed, and he could therefore benefit from a move to a club like Tottenham. However, if the North London club are going to sign him, they will need to free up some space.
