Exclusive: Millwall poised to sign Tottenham centre-back Japhet Tanganga permanently
Millwall are poised to make Japhet Tanganga’s stay at The Den permanent this summer, Tottenham News has been told.
Tanganga is currently playing his football on loan in the Championship with the Lions.
Having hardly featured for Spurs throughout the 2022/23 season, making just seven appearances for the North London side in all competitions, Tanganga was sent on loan to Bundesliga side FC Augsburg at the beginning of the season.
After failing to play a single minute of football in Germany, Tanganga was recalled to Tottenham in January and sent on loan to Millwall where he has made 10 appearances, impressing in recent weeks after a difficult start.
Tanganga’s contract in North London expires this summer, although Tottenham have the option to extend the centre-back’s deal by one year, which would raise the possibility of Daniel Levy selling the academy graduate on for a healthy profit.
Could Millwall sign Japhet Tanganga from Tottenham permanently?
Should Spurs take up the option to extend Tanganga’s contract until 2026, a recruitment source with close links to Millwall has revealed to Tottenham News that the Lions will look to sign the 24-year-old permanently.
Tottenham News understands that the cost to sign Tanganga wouldn’t be an “excessively large” fee, which could suit Millwall.
The East London side are currently 16th in the Championship, four points clear of the relegation zone, and their ability to sign Tanganga will likely depend on whether or not they avoid the drop to EFL League One.

Tanganga was a product of Spurs’ academy, emerging through the youth ranks before breaking into the first team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He has made 50 appearances to date for his boyhood club, assisting one goal, and previously represented England’s Under-21s on two occasions.
In other Tottenham news, one Spurs expert has advised the club to make a “bargain” signing after a Sky Sports update on Tuesday.
