Ex-Tottenham employee shares Jarrad Branthwaite transfer verdict as Everton news emerges

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King believes that Spurs should avoid signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton due to his £60million-plus pricetag.

As per the Daily Mail (24 March), Tottenham are one of several clubs interested in Branthwaite.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United are all also monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation at Goodison Park, with the Toffees set to demand more than £60million to sell their star centre-back.

Considering what he will cost Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, King believes Tottenham might be better-suited spending that kind of money elsewhere in their squad.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I can’t see where Branthwaite would fit in when everyone is fit.

“This is the standard of player they should be looking at, but why would you pay that much money for a young player who will be second-best at most, especially considering the way Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been playing?

“It is always good to be linked with these types of players, but I couldn’t see it happening. I think Spurs have bigger issues going forward personally.”

Could Jarrad Branthwaite move from Everton to Tottenham to play under Ange Postecoglou?

Spurs are currently well-stocked at centre-back with Romero, van de Ven and Radu Dragusin.

Considering the options they already have in that area of the pitch, King is right to suggest that Spurs might be wise to spend figures of £60million and above elsewhere in their squad.

Branthwaite is a fine talent and someone who could develop into a top Premier League centre-back.

Unfortunately for Spurs, he is just not what they need at this moment in time, and while it would be fantastic to have a player like him at the club, his signing should not be made a priority.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou must have more faith in one 100 per cent Spurs star after what he did this week.
