England accused of Tottenham agenda after ‘strange’ youth development
England have been accused of having an agenda against Tottenham after a series of squad announcements this week both at senior and youth level.
Thomas Tuchel named his first England squad on Friday, with Dominic Solanke the sole Tottenham representative for the Three Lions.
Spurs supporters were left absolutely fuming as Djed Spence was snubbed by Tuchel, while James Maddison was also a notable absentee.
Meanwhile, Mikey Moore will feature for England’s Under-19s during the March international break. However, the same cannot be said for a host of Spurs’ other talented youngsters, with a few exclusions particularly baffling.

Tottenham youngsters snubbed by England
Jamie Donley was perhaps the most shocking Tottenham omission from the England youth squads after the Spurs youngster’s fine performances for Leyton Orient this season.
As a result, Donley is considering a career change. However, he wasn’t the only Spurs academy prospect to lose their place in the England youth setup.
And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has questioned exactly why this might be.
“I find this very strange,” Wenham said.
“What is the message here? How can Donley, George Abbott and Luca Gunter consistently get picked for England youth squads when they’re playing academy football, but as soon as they go out and play senior football, they’re not picked?
Leyton Orient 2024/25 | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Jamie Donley | 39 | 6 | 6 |
“I don’t understand the message there. We should be encouraging players to go out on loan and get that experience. Tynan Thompson, another player who has shone this season and was snubbed by the England Under-17s.
“I just find it very strange and it seems to me as though there might be an agenda against Tottenham when you consider just how many players have missed out on these squads.”
Donley, Abbott and Gunter deserve better
While Donley has been shining at Leyton Orient, Abbott has been a key part of the Notts County squad this season, and Gunter has been playing regularly in the National League for Wealdstone.
Therefore, it makes absolutely no sense that these players, who have regularly been picked by England in the past, have been left out on this occasion.
