‘Eberechi Eze fail benefits Tottenham massively’ after what’s happened with Xavi Simons

Tottenham endured some torrid times in the transfer window, but it ended in a positive manner.

Arsenal hijacked Spurs’ move for Everechi Eze late in the day when it looked certain he would arrive at Hotspur Way.

However, Tottenham landed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig despite talk of Chelsea trying to land his services.

Now, it will be intriguing to see how the two players fare in North London, with the pair under the microscope.

Xavi Simons can be a hit for Tottenham

Spurs were essentially helpless to stop Eze from joining Arsenal, as he was always going to choose the club he supports.

However, in Simons, Thomas Frank has a promising prospect on his hands, and he could end up being the better signing.

Now, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has weighed in on the new recruit.

“At the end of the day, he’s five years younger than Eze, but seemingly got a significant amount of experience,” Wenham said.

“With those experiences he’s had already, and he’s been on the scene from such a young age, like 17, he was making first team appearances. Obviously, Eze has that Premier League experience with him.

“And I think Eze equally would have been a very, very good signing for Tottenham, but for whatever reason, Simons has popped up now, and he’s available. Tottenham have swooped in and that’s massively to our benefit.”

Can Xavi Simons be a better signing than Eberechi Eze?

Despite his tender years, Simons is already a towering name in world football.

The 22-year-old made his debut for PSG in 2021, aged 17, and already has a wealth of experience under his belt.

During his spells across Europe, he has demonstrated a clear eye for goal, but he has also bagged an admirable number of assists.

As for Eze, he was something of a late bloomer, having been released by Arsenal, Fulham, Reading, and Millwall.

However, he has proven himself to be a Premier League gem over the last few seasons with Crystal Palace.

Eze totaled 68 goal contributions in 169 appearances for the Eagles, but his influence went far beyond his numbers.

Indeed, his experience in England may put him in the driving seat, but at 27, the Gunners should get less out of him.

The North London rivalry is set to spike this year with what has gone on this summer, and all eyes will be on Simons and Eze.
