‘Donley to receive Tottenham chance’ as ‘outstanding’ claim shared – Exclusive

Jamie Donley will be keen to prove himself to Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

Donley took League One by storm while on loan with Leyton Orient last season.

The 20-year-old was involved in 19 goals in 52 matches, and was named the O’s’ Young Player of the Season and voted their Player of the Season by supporters.

As a result, Donley could be given the chance to impress at Tottenham next season.

Donley to have minutes in the first team after senior injuries

As reported by Football London (26 June), Tottenham have been rebuffing advances from clubs looking to take Donley on loan next season.

Frank is reportedly keen to take a look at several players during Spurs’ upcoming pre-season tour.

And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Donley will be given the chance to play in his preferred position.

“Donley is obviously an outstanding player,” Wenham said.

“He had a very good load at Leyton Orient last year and has played four or five times for Tottenham’s first team already.

“I fully back him to have benefited massively from playing men’s football last year, and I imagine he would be confident slotting into the first team now, especially when you think that James Madison and Dejan Kulusevski have had some injuries and are maybe not up and running yet.

“There’s a great chance for Donley to play in preseason in his natural role as a creative attacking midfield player, rather than a left-back, a position which we saw him play before. However, he got on with that, no dramas, as he always will.”

Frank faces a positive dilemma at Tottenham

The addition of Mohammed Kudus and Donley, as well as the potential signing of Morgan Gibbs-White, means that Frank has several players who can play as an attacking midfielder next season.

This is a nice problem for the manager to have. With Tottenham looking to compete for all trophies next season, it will be important to have squad depth.

This means that Frank will be able to rotate a lot more and set out in several ways over the next year.
