Dominic Solanke ‘to miss Tottenham v Bournemouth’ as injury update emerges

Dominic Solanke is expected to miss the clash with Bournemouth on Sunday after what Ange Postecoglou said about the Tottenham striker’s injury.

Solanke returned after a near two-month absence due to a knee injury as Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten 1-0 by AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 clash at the AFAS Stadion on Thursday (6 March).

The striker replaced Son Heung-min, who has been torn to shreds by Jamie O’Hara, in the 72nd minute. However, he was unable to complete the match after picking up a knock in the closing stages in the Netherlands.

Therefore, Spurs fans are understandably concerned about Solanke, and it looks as though the England international is once again set to miss out after what Postecoglou said.

Postecoglou provides optimistic injury update on Solanke

Spurs will host Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (9 March) as speculation around Andoni Iraola potentially replacing Postecoglou heats up.

Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash, Postecoglou provided an injury update on Solanke.

The Australian said [via Football London, 7 March], “With Dom, obviously it’s a knee going into the backside so a bit sore but it’s a knock so hopefully he’ll be back pretty quickly.”

However, despite the positive nature of the update, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects Solanke to be left out against the Cherries.

“He will no doubt want to play on Sunday,” Wenham said..

“Bournemouth is his old team, and they have already beaten us once this season.

Solanke was prolific for Bournemouth

“There won’t be a game he wants to play in more than the game against Bournemouth.

“However, I see him being left out to avoid any risks, and to allow him to recover and be ready to lead the line against AZ Alkmaar with a week of rest behind him.”

Solanke needs to be rested for Tottenham v Bournemouth

Postecoglou’s update on Solanke wasn’t entirely conclusive. However, the 59-year-old didn’t explicitly rule the forward out of Sunday’s clash.

Therefore, there is a chance the Spurs star could feature against his old club. However, under no circumstances should Solanke be starting against the Cherries.

The upcoming clash with AZ Alkmaar is arguably the biggest of Postecoglou’s career. As a result, he needs Solanke fit and firing, and cannot afford to risk any further injury in a more or less meaningless Premier League match.
