Doctor shares ligament damage claim after Yves Bissouma incident in Tottenham v Nottingham Forest

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma may have caused ligament damage for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The Mali international was shown a red card after going studs first into the Forest star, but that was after VAR intervened in the game which was played on 15 December.

Tim Sherwood on Premier League Productions, slammed the midfielder as footage of the challenge emerged (17 December, 9:53 pm) by saying: “That is a disgusting tackle by Bissouma. Why does he have to do it?”

Discussing the state of play with Bissouma exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

“I have to concur with Sherwood’s assessment with him calling it a disgusting challenge.

If the opponent’s foot is planted and there’s enough force, that could certainly cause some ligament damage to the knee.

Just a poor challenge which can endanger the safety.

With that red card, the 27-year-old will be serving a four-game ban as it is his second sending-off of the season.

With him travelling for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, he will not be available for the first team until at least the end of the month.

He sat out the 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday, 23 December and is set to miss the games against Brighton, Bournemouth and Burnley.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a player is mooted to have suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and now may be out for longer than first expected.
