Doctor issues injury update on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...
Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven may be closing in on his first-team return from injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
Paul O’Keefe, an agent close to Spurs, reported on 14 December that the Dutchman has stepped up his efforts in training and is doing individual work on the grass.
The injury expert believes that this is likely a positive sign and his hamstring injury is more of a moderate grade rather than a complete rupture as that would have ruled him out for three months.
Discussing the state of play with van de Ven exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “His routine will be methodically progressing his strength and mobility while getting back to more sport-specific actions.
“In terms of timeline, don’t believe Tottenham gave anything specific originally but there were reports of late January or early February so his return so quickly is likely a positive sign and he could be back sooner.
“His setback is sounding more like a moderate grade injury rather than a complete rupture which would be over three months out.”

Ange Postecoglou will certainly be delighted to welcome back arguably his best centre-back to training.
The Dutchman arrived in the summer to very little fanfare but quickly proved why Spurs wanted to bring him to the club.
He has been lauded for his lightning-quick pace and he’s also chipped with a goal in the league – the winner against Luton in October.
Spurs have been shipping in more goals without the 22-year-old in the side and Postecoglou is expected to throw van de Ven straight back into the XI once he’s fully fit.
In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a player is mooted to have suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and now may be out for longer than first expected.
