Doctor issues injury update on Cristian Romero ahead of Tottenham games v Manchester United and Manchester City

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero may be back in action against Manchester City but not Manchester United, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claimed that it seemed he would not be back in full first-team training until the end of January.

However, Ange Postecoglou confirmed on Friday 12 January that the Argentinian was back in training but the Manchester United clash on Sunday 14 January may come too quickly.

Discussing the state of play with Romero exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “This is likely a Grade 2 or Grade 3 out of 4 muscular rupture of the hamstring.

“Would have expected him to return to individual team training in mid to late January and then team training in late January.

“However, Ange’s comments suggest he’s back in team training already which means he’s recovering quicker than expected and there’s a chance he’ll be ready for selection after this weekend.

The 25-year-old has made 15 Premier League appearances this season and has made headlines for the right and wrong reasons.

He has been shown a red card along with four yellows but has also contributed to the side’s offensive cause, chipping in with three goals.

His last game was on 23 December when Spurs secured a 2-1 victory at home against Everton.

With Radu Dragusin joining from Genoa, it remains to be seen how the dynamics of the Spurs defence are impacted.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a player is mooted to have suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and now may be out for longer than first expected.
