Doctor issues injury update as Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur footage emerges

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur may be ruled out for three months if he requires surgery, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has shared footage he’s analysed which shows that it could be a high ankle sprain injury with associated ligament damage.

Given that a two-month return timeline has been reported, it could be a Grade 2 injury, but these are initial assessments and it may be worse.

Discussing the state of play with Bentancur exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Based on the mechanism of the injury, which means how it happened, as can be seen in the picture above and on the video, the ankle snaps outwards. The timeline is at least a couple of months.

It sounds like a high ankle sprain injury with associated ligament damage which is syndesmosis and possible medial ankle ligaments.

“The timeline would indicate a stable Grade 2 injury and if it requires surgery then typically over three months.

“It’s a really tough blow as he was already coming off an extended absence from ACL rupture and trying to regain previous fitness and form.

“It’s definitely going to be two months out based on the severity of the injury.

“The training will consist of gradually increasing speed and intensity, especially a change of direction.”

It will certainly be disheartening for the Uruguay international who looked like going on a run of regular starts after being named in eleven against Aston Villa over the weekend.

This was his first start after eight months as he missed the start of the season through injury and now faces another setback.

Last season, the 26-year-old was in exceptional form prior to his injury as he scored five goals and provided two assists in 18 league games.

Ange Postecoglou will also be fuming as he’s already missing the likes of Ivan Perisic, Micky van de Ven, Manor Solomon, James Maddison, Pape Sarr and Richarlison through injury.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a senior first-team player is set to be out for the rest of 2023 with a Grade 3 hamstring rupture, according to an exclusive by an injury expert.
