Djed Spence to be sold by Tottenham as ‘surprising’ transfer update emerges from Italy
John Wenham believes Djed Spence will be sold by Tottenham this summer amid a recent transfer update from Italy.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes it is important that Spurs find a solution for Spence, who is currently on loan in the Serie A with Genoa.
According to La Voce Rossoblu (11 April), the Spurs loanee is happy in Italy and keen to make his stay with Genoa permanent, with talks already underway between the two clubs to reach an agreement.
However, as per Fabrizio Romano (10 January), Genoa already have the option to make Spence’s loan stay permanent for £8.6million, and Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is therefore confused as to what the two clubs are discussing.
“He will be another one out the door and a player who Ange Postecoglou won’t need to interrupt his pre-season plans to include,” Wenham said.
“If Tottenham could get him out as soon as the window opens, that would be another big part of the rebuild which is continuing under Postecoglou.
“I was slightly confused as to why the report states they need to find an agreement with Tottenham when there is already a buy option in Spence’s loan.
“Perhaps they are trying to reduce the fee by a couple million, although £8.6million already seems pretty cheap to me, so it is a bit surprising that they are trying to lower the fee even more.”
Should Djed Spence be sold by Tottenham this summer?
In some ways, it seems quite harsh for Tottenham to get rid of Spence already.
The North London side invested a considerable fee in the 23-year-old, and he has hardly been offered an opportunity at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
On the other hand, the right-back is clearly not in Postecoglou’s plans.

As a result, keeping him would be a waste of time and money, and a permanent solution should therefore be found this summer, whether or not that is with Genoa.
In other Tottenham news, the club have been backed to rival Arsenal for Ollie Watkins’ signature.
