Dele Alli ‘could return to Tottenham’ as new role mooted already

Tottenham fan favourite Dele Alli has returned to matchday squads for the first time since 2023 with Serie A side Como.

The former England international has struggled with injury concerns for many years now, which saw his spell at Everton come to an end.

Now the 28-year-old finds himself training under Cesc Fabregas in Serie A but is yet to make an appearance since his move.

With that being said, a return to North London could be on the cards in the future as a role in the academy set up was mooted.

Alli could take up academy role at Tottenham

There is no doubt of how well loved the attacking midfielder is in N17 after a superb spell after signing from MK Dons back in 2015.

The ex-Besiktas loanee has had a tough time in recent years, which has seen him fail to play a single match since February 2023 but he appears to be on the comeback trail.

Alli has featured in Como’s matchday squad for recent fixtures against Roma and Venezia but is yet to be afforded any minutes.

Although these are likely to come, former Brentford and Leicester City manager Martin Allen believes a return to Spurs could be an option in the future.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Allen said: “Maybe that [a return to Tottenham] could be possible.

Every football supporter will be wishing him well at Como. He’s had a big dip, which can happen. The fact that he’s bouncing back and getting back into the game, let’s hope he can do it.

Maybe one day he can get back up to the level we know.

A role at Tottenham maybe. I’m not sure if he’s a coach or a possible manager, an academy coach to give knowledge to young people.

He may look at educating young players around depression and avoiding certain situations.

Tottenham should welcome Alli back

There is generally a lack of positivity surrounding the Lilywhites right now as Ange Postecoglou continues to struggle at the helm.

His side have little to play for in the Premier League, putting all their eggs in the Europa League basket to try and save their season.

If Spurs are to fall to defeat against AZ Alkmaar, there will be nothing to cheer in North London which is far from ideal at this stage in the campaign.

Some excitement could be created in N17 if Alli was to make a return in any capacity, given how well liked he is.

After such a stellar start to his career in the Premier League, it would certainly be a positive for him to impart his wisdom onto the young generation.

This could give the Hotspur Way academy some edge and create a positive vibe around the youth ranks before earning a first-team role.
