Daniel Levy ‘to start due diligence’ on new Tottenham manager within days

Ange Postecoglou will be under huge pressure to turn around the 1-0 deficit for Tottenham against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

For several months now, Postecoglou has appeared to be on the verge of the sack, though every week, he finds a way to survive it.

However, with the Europa League their only remaining chance of success, the question will emerge again if they fail to come back from 1-0 down against AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16 second leg on Thursday.

The entire season essentially hinges on their ability to do just that, with a fresh sack claim provided ahead of the Europa League clash.

Postecoglou needs a win v AZ Alkmaar

Given the stage in the season, it seems unlikely that Tottenham will sack Postecoglou, though that could change if they fail to progress to the quarter-final of the Europa League.

At least that would be the general consensus, though Paul Robinson believes the Australian will see it out until the end of the campaign regardless.

Despite that, the former Spurs keeper admits that due diligence could start on a possible replacement before then for a new hire in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I don’t see the point in sacking them until the end of the season if they fail against AZ Alkmaar. I mean, there’s nothing to play for. They’re out of all the domestic trophies.

“There’s no point in sacking them if they do lose to Alkmaar. You’re not going to gain anything by bringing a manager in between now and the end of the season to gain potentially two or three places higher up in the Premier League.

Tottenham have had a wretched league campaign

“If he doesn’t win that Europa League, the season’s going to be a failure, in the same way with Manchester United as well. There’s two teams that are hinging a season’s success on this Europa League, and it’s Tottenham and Manchester United. If Tottenham don’t win the Europa League, it’s been a disastrous season.

“You may as well take the time and do your due diligence and recruit a manager in the summer.”

Tottenham must replace Postecoglou

Whether they opt to do it now or at the end of the season, Tottenham simply have to seek greener pastures and part ways with Postecoglou after what has been a dreadful campaign.

Spurs need a new manager with fresh ideas to get the club heading back in the right direction and, perhaps most importantly, to bring some optimism back to the fanbase.

Daniel Levy cannot afford to let anything get in the way of that, regardless of what Spurs achieve in the Europa League.
