Daniel Levy hailed as Tottenham defender signs brand new contract

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou have a host of problems right now – but the availability of young talent isn’t one of those problems.

With Postecoglou under pressure and the club currently sitting 15th in the Premier League – as the threat of relegation looms – Spurs supporters will at least take some comfort in the knowledge that they have a host of talented youngsters in North London.

One of those talented youngsters is centre-back Alfie Dorrington, with Spurs recently announcing via the club’s official website (13 January) that the 19-year-old defender had joined Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen on loan until the end of the season.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was most pleased to see that Dorrington had signed a new contract with the club until 2029 before heading out on loan.

“I’m really pleased he has joined Aberdeen,” Wenham said.

“It seems as though he is going to get a lot of opportunities there. I think it is a great first loan for Dorrington. He will do a lot of growing up there, and if he impresses, he will probably get a Championship loan next season.

“I was also delighted to see that he signed a new contract. I was a bit worried that he was going to head out on loan and return to Spurs with just one year left on his deal, and all the cards would have been with him at that point.

“However, Tottenham and Daniel Levy have done well to get Dorrington signed up until 2029, and a development plan can now be put in place for him.”

Alfie Dorrington signs new contract at Tottenham

Dorrington is a talented young defender who has already made his Premier League debut for Tottenham.

However, he was unlikely to play regularly for the first team over the coming months, especially with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven still to return. Therefore, a loan move made the most sense.

While temporary switches haven’t worked out for all of Spurs’ loanees this season, Dorrington will hope to use this as an opportunity to demonstrate the kind of potential he has.
